Banjul, Gambia 07/15 - The Chairman of Gambia`s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Ndondi Njie, has announced a one week extension in the supplementary voter registration exercise ahead of the West African country`s September presidential polls.
He said after two weeks, some 90 thousand Gambians were registered, and that the large turnout had prompted the extension, with the new deadline set for 21 July.
"What we have registered so far is quite a large number of people and we have also replaced and/or transferred some cards," Njie told a press conference here Thursday.
"We have just completed the two-week supplementary registration exercise, but due to strong demands from Gambians, we have to extend it by a week," he added.
